Group Programs at Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

Onsite Group Programs

Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary offers engaging group programs for schools, scouts, daycares, camps, and more. These field trips are available from May through early June on weekdays, and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 10th through August 31st.  To ensure an intimate and personalized experience, we accommodate only one group at a time, which means our calendar fills up quickly. If you’re considering a visit, we encourage you to reserve your spot soon.

For evening programs, we also welcome scout troops, Red Hat groups, senior centers, and other special events. In addition, we can bring the magic of the sanctuary to your location with group programs available year-round. For more information on reserving a group program, please email us.

Meet the Butterfly Lady – Mari Gruber

Mari Gruber, also known as the “Butterfly Lady,” was honored with the Educator of the Year Award in 2011 by the Carbon County Conservation District. This recognition celebrates her outstanding commitment to environmental education and stewardship of the natural world, making her group programs as inspiring as they are informative.

Butterflies 101 Programs

Our popular “Butterflies 101” group programs will be available both onsite and offsite starting in early May and running through late August. Unfortunately, we are unable to book groups before May 2025 due to scheduling constraints. Our group spots are sold out for April and May 2025 , many summer dates available . You can also book now for a fieldtrip in 2026.

Public Hours

Special public/charity event on May 25th, 26th, 27th 11-5. Starting Sat. June 8th, regular walk-in hours are Thursday through Monday 11-5, Tuesday and Wednesday 2-6.

NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED

Visit the website again in early Spring for details on our annual “Welcome the Butterflies Back” celebration planned for May 25th, 26th and 27th.

Butterfly School 101

Our immersive Butterfly School 101 program offers an unforgettable, hands-on experience for kids and educators alike! Each program includes:

  • Wonderful age-appropriate butterfly video
  • Educational fun interactive program
  • Time in the FLUTTERARIUM to hang out with real-live butterflies
  • Craft and/or games
  • Indoor and outdoor table space for snacks or lunch
  • Fabulous kid-friendly gift shop / If you allow your group to shop, every child gets a free Sanctuary admission ticket to use at a later date.

Cost: $12.00 per person

Note: All onsite private group programs have a minimum cost of $240.00.

Half-Day, Morning or Afternoon:
$400.00 plus travel costs*. Up to 2 classroom programs. No more than 60 students in each program.

Full-Day:
$800.00 plus travel costs*. Up to 4 classroom programs. No more than 60 students in each program.

*TRAVEL COSTS (in addition to program costs)

  • Carbon County: $.80 per mile round trip
  • Non-Adjacent Counties: $30.00 plus $1.00 per mile round trip
