Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary Foundation

Connecting people and nature one butterfly at a time.

Established 12.31.2008

Mission Statement

To provide under-served populations and the general public with joyous, educational experiences that increase the awareness of the importance and wonderment of butterflies, and encourage ecological stewardship through programs, field trips, instructional resources, and events.

B.M.S.F. believes that every person’s life can be enriched by a closer connection to the world of nature. We provide a variety of services towards this end, including education programs at a facility in Jim Thorpe, PA as well as in the community. Butterfly releases, workshops on gardening, scout badge work, camps, free publications, and special events in partnership with local environmental education centers and other non-profits are offered.

Past

A separate entity known as Bear Mountain Butterflies has provided educational programs, workshops, and day camps since 2002 at its facility in the Poconos, PA.

Present

B.M.S.F. is taking over much of the programming aspects of what BMB has been doing, focusing specifically on providing enrichment and education outreach to underserved populations, as well as events in the community, such as presentations at schools, libraries, camps, state parks, senior centers, daycare facilities, and other public and private venues.

Future

B.M.S.F. will expand its community and private programming efforts through outreach to additional market segments, including physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged people. The foundation will seek grants and private funding to support its efforts.
